Harri Syrjänen
Harri Syrjänen
This book presents the work of one of Finland’s most distinctive goldsmiths and leather artists, Harri Syrjänen.
Syrjänen trained at the Goldsmith School in Helsinki from 1965 to 1969, earned his master goldsmith title in 2010, and has run his own workshop in Helsinki since 1971. Working with every possible material, from silver and gold to leather, he creates jewellery full of humour, imagination and storytelling, often drawing on nature, ancient history and the sea. Named Finnish Craftsman of the Year in 1996, he has exhibited widely in Finland and abroad, including in Reykjavik, Paris, Tokyo, Moscow, London and Sydney. The book’s hand-drawn mammoth cover reflects the playful, timeless spirit of his work, pieces made to be looked at, worn and lived with.
