Guided introduction to traditional ryijy sewing

€60.00

We warmly invite you to an introductory session on ryijy sewing hosted by artists Niina Mantsinen held during the exhibition Luminous Threads, Woven Motion.

Artist Niina Mantsinen, known for her contemporary interpretations of traditional Finnish ryijy rugs, introduces participants to the fundamentals of sewing a ryijy onto fabric. This method is rooted in long-standing textile traditions.

Working on a 35 × 35 cm fabric base, participants get to explore material, texture, and technique while surrounded by the exhibition’s woven and light-based works.

Throughout the session, Artist Jani Hietanen will have created an ambient soundscape, providing a quiet, atmospheric backdrop to the tactile work. At the end, each participant will leave with their own small ryijy piece. All materials including fabric, yarn and needles are provided. Warm drinks and a small bite will be served.
