Oiva Toikka – Lasi ja design -- Vintage book
Oiva Toikka – Lasi ja design presents the life and work of one of Finland’s most beloved glass artists. Born near Vyborg, Toikka trained in ceramics in Helsinki and worked at Arabia before joining the Nuutajärvi glassworks in 1963, where he spent the rest of his career. He is best known for his Birds by Toikka, unique hand-blown birds made since the early 1970s, and for tableware classics such as Kastehelmi, Flora, Pioni and Krouvi. Alongside his design work he created bold, playful art glass that he himself described as baroque, as well as costumes and sets for theatre and opera. Written by British glass historian Jack Dawson, senior lecturer in the history of art and design at the University of Sunderland, the book places Toikka’s richly imaginative work within the wider story of international glass design.
