1 + 2 In matter- Sculpted minds
14.02. 2019 – 30. 3. 2019

The first 1+2 exhibition organized by gallery Gao Shan: In Matter – Sculpted Minds runs from February 15 to March 30. The exhibition presents famous Finnish jewelry artist Jorma Laine's life story through several previously unseen photos from the family album alongside selected exhibits of his jewelry. Two young Finnish jewelry designers, Marika Tiukkanen and Sanna Nuutinen, present their art jewelry in the exhibition.

The 1+2 concept aims to introduce one famous Finnish jewelry designer and two up-and-coming Finnish jewelry designers to create a connection between the past and present. The idea is to give people better access to the meaningful, yet endless and rather obscure field of design where people behind the artworks remain hidden all too often.

The three exhibited jewelry designers use nature as inspiration for their works. Yet they have their own, very recognizable style for sculpting their thoughts into the real world for everyone to experience as modern three dimensional objects.

Jorma Laine is known for his modernist, abstract, even humorous jewelry pieces made in the 1960s and 1970s. Originally very skilled at drawing, trained at Turku drawing school, he gradually developed his own style of jewelry making. Many of his works resemble miniature sculptures.

This exhibition is not about casting a comprehensive look into Jorma Laine's jewelry but to draw a picture of his life through selected photographs from the family album that let you nearer to the person behind the beloved jewelry designs.
